MICHAEL GIBSON (MFA 2009)

Mike was commissioned to create a sculpture for Bergdorf Goodman's 2013 holiday windows. The theme of the window was Arbor Day, and the sculpture he built was a tree and root structure that is 13 x 11 x 3 feet. He also built a reduced scale replica of the tree that the mannequin is holding in her hand to allude to the planting.

MARTHA ERLEBACHER RETROSPECTIVE

November 5 - 29, 2013

Trained originally in Abstract Expressionism, Erlebacher (along with her husband Walter) broke from this style in the late 60’s and quickly became recognized as one of the leading representational figurative and still-life artists in America. Erlebacher’s work examines the deep metaphorical and social themes of contemporary culture through her painterly and aesthetic images. This retrospective pays tribute to Martha’s outstanding leadership and tenure at the Academy.

This exhibition was presented in partnership with the Erlebacher family and Seraphin Gallery, Philadelphia.

A selected group of artists were shown a collection of photographs by Stephen Pile, a New York based photographer with a past engulfed in rural life. The artists sifted through the photos in search of one that spoke to them, from which they created a piece of artwork.
