' “The Figure” (Rizzoli, 240 pages, $60) is a wide-ranging survey of contemporary art depicting the human body in all its splendor. The book was conceived by the New York Academy of Art, whose alumni and instructors are discussed within. Although some images in this book might earn an R rating at the cinema, they arise from a grand and rigorous tradition of artistic education based on life drawing.'
